Forscan bricked APIM module

Featured Replies

I recently bought vLinker, and Forscan to remove an message regarding Adaptive steering I had on my dashboard. (S-Max Vignale 2.0 2017)

I thought I would be clever and update some of the module that had new firmware. In doing so I may have bricked a module (APIM). I now have no Touch screen display and the USB ports in front console do not appear to be working.

I tried recover mode in Forscan, but get the message "Programming was successful, but something went wrong. Module seems to be "bricked" :("

Is there anyone in the UK Northwest that I could travel to, to fix my messup?

show a print screen of the update page before you started updating, it has a list of all the part numbers of the new software

I take it you didn't fully read the MFU guide before you pressed go??

Unfortunately I did not read a manual. I looked at a few youtube videos, thought I was an expert, and now know I am not. I looked at modules that had updates, Tried the first one (APIM), and now am stuck. Hence my call out to fix my bodging. I won't be doing it again.

On FORScan

I tried, stop activity on buses, and also Recovery mode. I think the system believes it's a Sync 1 and not a Sync 3.

I also left the battery disconnected overnight. Which didn't help.

OK was current calibration *****?

And you have failed at FGF?

If so, select "to program" ***** again, make sure all little green squares are green, if not download software until all green, ignore image

Connect a battery charger to vehicle

check force program unchanged

stop activity on buses and

recovery mode

test load sbl, if all good program, make sure cable is on latest firmware and connection settings to auto

God it's blocked out F.A.G, how bloomin woke

Ya see? This is why I won't touch ForScan, I know I'm useless at IT stuff, and would end up with a big paperweight instead of a working car. Hope you get sorted!

ForScan is fine if you don't start updating modules before you do loads of research.

I updated PAM ACM APIM PCM and IPC on my focus.

I bricked PAM on first attempt, wrong lead

You'd struggle to brick a Mk2 with Forscan.  ELMConfig was the risky software for those.

According to Forscan. it now supports MK2 Focus

How far does that support go?  Couldn't make GEM adaptions such as adding cruise on Forscan when I first got a Mk2.  Though that was nearly a decade ago now.

Is that a challenge??  🤣

Not getting that far now. When I now get this.

If anyone can help, I am willing to travel and pay. Getting desperate. I know it's all my fault.

You haven't deleted your profile have you?

When you connect car are you selecting your car or new connection?

you're probably going to have to contact Forscan support, but they only support paid license and you can't buy a license due to Putin

I have tried with a new profile. I removed the beta 2.47 version I had, and loaded the latest 2.3.55. Starting all from scratch. I have a full license. I bought it a couple of days ago.

Extended licences were only unavailable for about a month last year.

I must be doing something right. I have an extended license valid until 2024-07-15

Just a quick update, to say that the Forscan support team were excellent. They helped me unbrick the module.

I am a much relieved S-Max owner.

The main thing is DON'T delete your profile, no matter what anyone advises you to do.

Roll back the APIM to the previous version that works, get a better lead and follow the instructions for updating to the letter
