Ecoboost timing belt change - any independents in SE?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of any independent garages in the SE, preferably north of London, which offer Ecoboost timing belt changes? My local Ford dealer has quoted over 1700 to change the belt on a 2013 Fiesta which has reached 90,000 miles.

A very reasonable price for a Ford dealer, especially in the London area. 😀

From what I recall seeing here on the forum any independent garage willing to do it is going to want somewhere around £1200-1500.

As an alternative would you be willing to consider me doing it for you personally? I'd be willing to do it for somewhere around £800. This would include replacing the timing belt, tensioner, water pump and oil pump belt, and cleaning out the filter screen of the oil pump.

You'd need to bring it up to me in Shropshire, which I'm estimating would cost about £45 in fuel for a round trip, plus a round trip on the train/buses or something, leaving it with me. I expect it would take a least a couple days to get it done.

I'd let Ford do it. If it goes bang afterwards they can put a new engine in

That's a great offer thanks, but I think I've found a local independent garage to do it for a reasonable price now (most I contacted really didn't want to know!).

Okay, no problem.

Just out of curiosity, how much are they charging?

Around 1100, tbc.

Lookers Ford just quoted £1396 . Don't know if they are close enough for you.

Hi rd457, I'm looking to get the belt, tensioner, water pump and oil pump belt changed on my B Max Titanium with Ecoboost 1.0. Have you got a slot in your diary? It's done 81,000 miles and is 10yrs old.

Hi, yes I'm available to get it done and would be happy to do it. Just as long as you understand that I'm not a business, I'd be doing it on a friendly DIY type basis in my driveway, and it'll take at least a couple of (dry/sunny) days.

I'll replace the timing belt (cambelt), its tensioner, the oil pump belt, the water pump, and clean out the inevitably clogged oil pump filter/screen. It may also be a good idea for me to replace the oil and oil filter.

There are around 20 different items I'm going to have to source, from parts and fluids to a few extra tools I'll need, so it would probably be at least a week or so before I'd have everything gathered together ready to work on it.

Could you tell me your engine code please? You can probably find it in your V5C document, mines listed under Type->Variant within it. Your registration plate may also be helpful (you can PM it to me if you like). One reason I need the engine code is that it seems that there are two different timing belt's for 1.0 ecoboost B-Maxs with a slight different in width, so I'll need to figure out which to purchase.

Hi, the reg is EX13ZCO. I'll get the info off the V5. Thanks, Dave

Okay, brilliant, I'll get started on sourcing things.

Could you give me a call on 07717 208110. Just be good for us both to make intros before committing to do business. Thanks, Dave
