MK4 Ford Focus Battery Charging Problems

This is the company that supplied and fitted the Thinkware U1000 dashcam inc radar sensor for me. car-electrical.co.uk I assumed they would know what they were doing, it wasn't a Jack-The-Lad off Facebook.

Dealership I bought it off and have been back to twice with the same fault is lookers.co.uk/ford/contact-us/lookers-ford-south-shields It's a months wait for a service appointment there. ☹️

autoelectricalsolutionsltd.co.uk is the garage that has been highly recommended to me for hunting out the underlying problem but again that's not until 31st July. ☹️

Just looking at their website "Car Electrical - Auto Electrics, Air Conditioning & Diagnostics" I'd be stunned if they'd wired the dashcam up wrong. I feel cheeky even asking them that tbh.

It's not necessarily that the dashcam is wired up wrong. It could just be the dashcam is still pulling power even when parking mode is off.

I'd disconnect it to ensure it can't be pulling any power, while trying to investigate this.

Understood. I'm parked up against a wall on the passenger side atm so I can't get access to the passenger fuses just yet. Will get it charged up to 100% and I think I will phone the dashcam installer and ask. Also think I will phone Ford head office and see if someone can get me another (waste of time?) dealership appointment this side of August.

Interesting observation is that BM6 now reports me as being 100% charged but the mains trickle charger isn't showing full yet and I know it does show full when I have used it on my motorbikes batteries before after winter.

You might also need to disconnect the BM6 before having Ford investigate this. You need to ensure there are no acessories that are using power, for them to check for drain.

Could the BM6 be faulty? Perhaps it is that which is draining the battery?

I've phoned Ford Customer Relationship Team 👀 and opened a case. They are going to talk to the dealership and get back to me on Monday.

What is going on with the car isn't right. My neighbours think I've got an EV because it's on the mains charger so damn much. 😡

Hello...    some news about this? I have the same experience with my Ford Focus MK4. My car is from 06/2022 and now I bought new battery because when I charge it to 100% and I not drive a week the car was not able to start. When I bought new battery it has about 12.75V over night. After three weeks (it drives every day 2x18km) it is about 12.6-12.65(max) over night. I think there is some problem with high current consumption in parking (standby?) mode. But there is not way how to measure it. After I unlock the car, the unites in car are awaking - the battery has now about 12.3V after unlock.

Have you tried fiirmware updates in some units? Is it solution?

that's expected voltages at 80% SOC, however if new battery is not able to start vehicle after 1 week you have a drain

Yes I have have a drain! It is called "stupid ford systems".  Ford say: there is a lot of control units, you have to drive more...    WTF?! So I have to drive to my work for 2hour instead 15minuts? So much, to charge the battery enough so that the Ford control units have enough power to send information about my car to the Ford servers? WTF?

I don't want a Ford Pass or any similar services.

Is there any way to set the vehicle to go into deep sleep mode earlier (when batt is < 12.6V) in forscan?

what I would do first is disconnect battery from car for at least 1h and fully charge it before refitting, that will all modules to reset and see if that improves things

I did this many times. Reset BMS many times. With new battery is it better. BUT HOW LONG?! Origin battery was died after 2.5years. Now I have new a new one. I increase SOC level from 80 to 95, and I had BM6, I never left my car without locking and close windows.

I think I need manually turn off the car to deep sleep mode. There is no other way. I think about million people on the internet have this problem with modern Ford cars.
