2013 MK3 1.0 intermittent grinding noise

Featured Replies

During a short ride yesterday I suddenly heard an intermittent loud on/off grinding noise lasting about 3 seconds each occurence. Sounded sort of like sand grinding in a large  bearing or something loose touching the ground. Didn't see any pattern to when it occured. Hard to pinpoint source, but more likely front than back. (Nothing is loose or touching the ground.)

I tried to provoke the sound during a 20km ride today without hearing anything at all. Hard short turns, loaded the car during longer turns, stressed the suspension, accelerate/brake and high/variable rpm.

Ideas truly appreciated as the car is supposed to be driven like 1600km during vacation the next couple of weeks.

Could be something as simple as a stone getting lodged in the brake caliper, wearing away and dropping out.

Certainly hope so, and I would normally wait to see if it manifest again. Just a bit worried as I plan on a long drive in mainly desolate areas.

Would love your assumption to be correct 🙂

Did it happen again?
