Focus 2.0 tdci 2005 glow plugs

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am getting code P0380 Glowplug control circuit on Forscan, rather than take out the glow plugs (which looks like a nightmare) to test can they be tested if left in via the connection in the glow plug loom? and what would be the best method, test light or multi meter. Hope you can help.

Many thanks

You can measure the resistance of each glow plug from the connector to the relay, you will probably find all the glow plugs ok, as you say it’s the control circuit, probably a bad connection or broken wire from the glow plug relay to the PCM, or could be a faulty glow plug relay.

I will give that a go. Is there a figure that the resistance should be and do you know where the relay might be as

its not in the fuse box under the bonnet

Many thanks

Not sure on position of relay, if you can see the glow plugs are they separate cables to each plug or one cable linking them all, because if they are you will need to disconnect them to measure individually, glow plugs are normally between 1 and 6 ohm.

The connector which separates the glow plugs from the loom on top left rear of the engine has 4 terminals so could test from there, thanks for the ohms figure.

I'll see if I can trace the loom back to the relay and will update later.

Many thanks

Found the relay...eventually, followed the loom and it goes towards the N/S headlight, could not see relay so I removed headlight because its quick to do and there it was about 8" below but not really accessible unless I had baby hands and arms. I had to remove the 2 covers from under the engine to get to the relay. The clip holding the relay to the socket was really tough to get moving but eventually got there. Cant see any breaks in the wires or corrosion on terminals. I would like to test the relay if possible, does anyone know how to test them?

Many thanks

Same place as the extra fusebox on the Fiesta 2005/2006 TDCi.

Yes its below the head light but attached to the bodywork on its own, not in a fuse box, a very user friendly place to put it....lol
