Ford galaxy front right outer sensor

Featured Replies

Hi guys, hope all is well. Having a little issue, Parking Sensors stopped working, I connected to forscan, got message front right outer parking sensor.

Ok great thought a simple fix, straight swap so bought original Ford sensor, didn't work. Tried another new sensor, didn't work again.

Silly question, Am I right saying straight swap, or is there anything else needs doing to activate the sensor?

Any ideas to what the problem could be.

I've tried cleaning the connections and looking for any loose/ burnt wires. All visible wires seems ok.

Any help will be appreciated.

Do you have 4 front sensors or 6?

remember that it is 'right' as viewed from the drivers seat, not when looking at the front of the vehicle.

Ok, if there were 6 that can cause confusion over the 'outer' one.

I believe they are all identical on these, so you can swap a known working sensor (any of the other 3) with the faulty one.  If that doesn't work then we know it's a wiring issue.

Probably wiring then if you've tried sensors. Have you got a multi meter. ? As you had forscan what you should have first done was  just swap a sensor first to see if the fault moved with the sensor. That would have saved buying 2 sensors. Too late.

Yes I have tried that, but the same message comes on, I think you guys are right a wiring issue, how would I go about checking with a multimeter

@iantt

Thanks buddy, yes I think a wiring issue and yes I should have done this before buying the sensors.

How would I use check using a multimeter?

You can either find the parking module and test continuity between the sensor plug and the PAM plug.

Or do a voltage test at the sensor plug with the sensors switched on.  Should be 12v on one pin, 0v on the ground/earth pin and a changeable voltage on the third pin as you move something nearer and further from the sensor.

Thank you buddy, I will try this and get back to you. Really appreciate your advise

Ignore it says right inner , that's an error.

Thanks guys, regarding the above sensor diagram, I thought the wires are ground/live/signal, which ones which? Sorry, I'm not that technical.

As soon as it stops raining, I'll give it a go, with the multimeter.

Can I ask a favour plz, can someone confirm that the old sensor and new sensor are the same ?

Just checked using your reg and it looks like the inner and outer sensors are different after all.

The outer one should be 1771950. GENUINE FORD PARKING SENSOR (1771950) | eBay

I don't know if the one you bought is compatible or not.

Looking at Ian's diagram, pin 1 is live, pin 2 is signal, pin 3 is ground.

Hi again guys, sorry it's been a while, I finally found the fault. Part of the wire from the out right sensor to the harness was rubbing against the underside of the crash bar frame of the car. Over time the wire must have got damaged.

I really appreciate all your help, and I consider it another lesson learned on auto electrics.

Thanks again
