Fiesta Zetec Climate '07 engine suddenly sounding different.

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I wonder if I could get some help with an issue I am having with my engine. I'll start by saying I don't really know much about cars.

The main problem is that my engine suddenly sounds completely different from what I'm used to. I would like some help in finding out what the cause might be and if it's something that can be rectified by me rather than wasting a garages time if it's a simple fix.

It started about a week ago and I even made a 2 hour journey with this new engine noise and didn't encounter any problems.

It was last serviced about 2 years ago and MOT'd in January. I've checked the engine oil and although it's within the two notches it is nearer the lower end.

Hopefully that all makes sense, if you need any other information please do not hesitate to ask. I appreciate any help and advice on this.

Cheers

Sean

Can you describe the change in sound?

So upon closer inspection I can tell that the new sound is coming from the exhaust. I got a recording of it and put it on youtube here:

Looks like it's as simple as needing a new exhaust.

Dry belt, no turbo, solid lifters...  Will be fine without a yearly oil change.  Ford used to make robust engines before the 1.0 EcoBoost...

Must admit, I can't hear a specific issue on the video...not sure if that's down to my speakers or my hearing.  Replacing the exhaust isn't a simple task on these.  If it's original, it needs cutting off.  If only part needs replacing, the cut obviously has to be fairly precise.  It will probably fail the MOT if it's blowing.
