Mk2 Focus Stereo Upgrade

Looking to upgrade ny 2006 zetec stereo, I don't seem to have any reception anywhere (especially since fitting dash cam lol)

I would certainly look to getting the aerial sorted out before carrying out any upgrades, if your car can't get a decent radio signal now, it's unlikely to suddenly get a great one by replacing the head unit. Also, that unit does not have DAB+, which increasingly is the way radio is heading in the UK. (Kinda like buying a CD player with no MP3 function!)

it's worth checking the aerial is plugged into the back of the stereo properly, if it is, try replacing the aerial as its only screwed in and doesnt cost much

If you have a rear dashcam fitted on the back screen then you will have problems with radio reception.

Is this also the case with a roof mounted aerial? I was under the assumption it only effected radios where the aerial was built into the rear heating element. 😀

I thought that year model used both, but could be wrong. Some models use a traditional aerial for AM reception and the heated rear window for FM/DAB

Over the years I've come across quite a few variations of aerials. Running the cable for the rear dashcam (if fitted) through the head lining next to  aerial cable also reduces the radio signal strength and causes interference.

Thank you, its only a front cam, but wires run down the left into the glove box.

I added a ferrite core, which didn't do much.

OK I'll give that a try, the actual physical aerial is pretty worn, I tried am Ebay shorter style, but my signal was virtually non existent, switched back to OEM, fitted front cam and now only get Radio 2 or Classic

Heart, Radio 1 all non existent.

Cheers

I've yet to hear a case where the fitting of a ferrite core actually worked in reducing interference! 😀

I also ended up replacing my old aerial with a new one, which helped immensely!

Do you have a link to the aerial please? Was it hard to change?

Sorry, it was a few years back now. A simple Ebay search will give you many options. Don't go for a 'stubby' one, they're useless. In terms of radio reception, bigger is best LOL

Once you remove the interior courtesy light fitting, you'll see this - if you can handle a screwdriver, you should be on firm ground...

From memory, I think I had a friend hold the aerial whilst I unscrewed it - you need arms about 7ft in length otherwise 🤣
