Focus MK2.5 humid/sweaty smell after not being used.

Featured Replies

Hi all, I have a problem thats not obvious with my car. I was away on holidays and when I got back my car had a bad smell of damp. Its not the end of the world but its bugging me since I like a clean car.

Theres no obvious leaks in the car. No footwells are damp and the boot is dry. The only water ingress seems to be after I open the boot in the rain and close it; a few drops fall onto the rear headrest. Its very little so I think this might be a red herring. I changed the spoiler a couple years ago (like for like swap) because it was broken but again, theres no obvious ingress in the boot.

Any ideas what it could be? Should I take the spoiler off again and put silicon around the bolt holes? I'm eager to keep the car in good shape because I'm keeping it for another while.

Check the pollen filter isn't damp.  Or just change it while you're in that area.

I replaced it a few months ago but will double check it. Thanks for your response.

Have you checked that the spare wheel well hasn't turned in to a duck pond ?

Lol. Yes I had a look but no dampness in the wheel well. I think its a very slow leak somewhere between the hinges and brake lights. I Siliconed the spoiler and applied some weather stripping between the roof and tailgate. Seems to be very common from everyone showing off their unique leaks on youtube.
