09 Fiesta Titanium - Not sure if a battery issue?

Featured Replies

So I'll start off with the battery was dead this morning, however I'm not sure if it's a battery issue or something else that is draining it. So the electrics have been "odd" for the last few days as in after I've turned off the car the radio wouldn't turn off until I turned the car back on and turned it off before actually switching the engine off. Also last night the clock wouldn't turn off even after trying everything. So no doubt that's drained the battery, but could it be a battery issue that is causing the electrics to do that? Or something else that just so happens to be draining the battery?

Hopefully somebody has come across this before. Thanks!

Does you radio have Bluetooth? If so try disconnection the Bluetooth device from it.

There were some issues where a Bluetooth device was keeping the sync system live.

That sounds more like a problem with the GEM/BCM or the Instrument Cluster.

The 'General Electronic Module' is an earlier version of what is now called the 'Body Control Module'. On quite a number of models there is a problem of water ingress which causes the module to malfunction and create random faults. BEFORE investigating disconnect the negative lead from the car battery.

The GEM is part of the passenger compartment fuse box. You need to disconnect the plugs and look for signs of water and/or greenish corrosion of the connector pins.

The instrument cluster is another common problem on Ford vehicles of around the 2009 era. It's caused by poor solder joints which causes random faults and keeps the vehicles canbus system active and hence the car does not fully shut down. Often you can test this by giving a bit of a thump on top of the IC and see if the faults change. If there is a reaction when doing this then you need to get the IC refurbished, which costs around £90
