Help with power folding mirrors

Featured Replies

I have Petrol 1.4 2008 ztec Fusion and i was doing too much research to find out if i can add power folding mirrors to my fusion and found not much so hoping here i will!

i've bought a folding mirror control knob thing and a pair of folding mirrors for the fiesta mk6 ( i know its for the mk6 but they look identical and fit well ), ive fitted everything and i used forscan to enable the power folding option and in the end they dont work? could someone guide me into what i do next! 😄

Does anyone know how i can add them, my existing mirrors are the basic entry electric controlled mirrors 🙂

Have you checked the door wiring to see if any of the pins are missing compared to the mirror plugs?

Im not too sure about this one, im not sure what fuse or relay i should be looking at? would you know where i could find where it should be

i feel like it probably doesnt have a relay for it but im sure it might be able to fit it, to which plug im not sure 😄 many thanks

Might be quickest for you to post a picture of your fuse box lol.

I think mirrors are the large square relay in the far corner.

is there a special type of relay i need for it to enable the folding thing, that replaces the relay in R10

many thanks 😄

Not that I'm aware of. There is only one relay called up in the parts list for relay 10

What does make a difference is the Drivers Door Module. As far as I know only the DDR on cars with rear electric windows has the function for power fold mirrors. Does your car have front and rear power windows ?

Hey, no most fusions are hand driven rear windows but electric front windows

many thanks 😄

i cleaned the control knob and it was a bit wet and forscan said something like "power folding control grounded or shorted" so there must be a module and power going to the folding controller perhaps? 😄 it didnt work before i cleaned it,

so maybe it could be the folding mirrors i bought brand new but probs not but deffo probably why its not working maybe

I have very limited information, so I'm basing my thoughts on the Fiesta and the way in which they were configured.

Perhaps FUSION owners with power fold mirrors could confirm if they also have rear power windows. ?

just my thinking it wouldnt be grounded if it didnt have a relay and power so indiacting the mirrors that cost like a tonne to buy are probably at fault

Possible the mirrors are not compatible with your wiring. With a bit of careful investigation you should be able to work out which 2 wires are for the motor that does the folding.

If you unplug both mirrors and clear the fault code on FORScan and then re-run the module test, FORScan should then say the mirror relay circuit is "Open Circuit"

If you can identity the wires for the mirror folding motor then you can test that they work by applying 12V to make the motor operate.

how could i test that the connectors are supplying / giving power for folding and unfolding? should i use a mutlimeter and probe the two wires , many thanks 😄

I assume that the new mirrors will have two extra wires that the original mirrors did not have. These will be the connection to the power fold motor. If you momentarily connect 12 volts to those wires it should activate the motor that folds the mirror. Reversing the connection to those two wires should make it run in the opposite direction.

Can you post a photo of the plug (showing the connecting pins) of the original mirror and a photo of the plug on the new mirror ?

Our Fusion Titanium has power folding and heated mirrors, and has manual rear windows.

Haynes has zero information on power folding circuitry.

Although the control switch enables Open/Fold, by pressing the control knob downwards, the actual open/fold signal must also be initiated by lock/unlock from the GEM I would assume.

CatCar lists about a dozen different cable assemblies for Fusion doors, and for our car, 1501781 is the fitted cable assembly.

I suggest that the OP enters his VIN and sees if it comes up with the same part number.
