Got a mk6 fiesta 1.6 zetec s diesel having problems with the battery not holding a charge had a new alternator and battery but battery light remains on after its started

Have you got a multimeter?  First test is to check the battery voltage with the engine running.

As long as the alternator & battery were correct, and the SmartCharge plug was refitted, then I'd suspect a damaged wire for the SmartCharge.

Cheers need to take the earth off with the positive still conected to see if i got a power drop where does the smart charge (exiter wire go from and too

The SmartCharge wire comes from the plug on the alternator and goes to the plug on the engine ECU.

Having a battery drain would explain losing battery charge overnight, but the alternator should be able to pump more than enough power into the battery to overcome that with the engine running.

Hi did you find your fault. Sound a lot like the trouble I’m having.

Hello Wayne, and welcome to the Ford Owners Club.

I don't think you're going to get an answer from Matthew anytime soon.

So what problem do you have with your car ? The more information and background you can give the more likely someone will have some suggestions on what the issue could be.

  • What engine do you have?
  • Has the battery been replaced recently ?
  • Has the alternator been replaced ?
  • Do you have a multimeter and can you take some voltage measurements ?
  • Are there any warning lights on in the instrument cluster ?

Hi unofix, I’ve started a new topic.

Hopefully you can help. Thanks.
