Mk4 1.0 125 non mhev battery

Featured Replies

My battery has gave up the ghost, so looing to fit this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Yuasa-YBX7096-Start-Stop-Battery/dp/B00KNQRQC6/ref=asc_df_B00KNQRQC6/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=218809734855&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7012878532835694460&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1007325&hvtargid=pla-438838181215&psc=1&th=1&psc=1

Is there any problem fitting a slightly larger capacity battery.

I've increased the battery charge to 95% via Forscan.

Battery is currently a 60/600 Varta.

Cheers

At less than 3 years old the battery should not need replacing as yet.

There is no harm in fitting in fitting  a Yuasa YBX7096 12V 75Ah 700A EFB 👍 but if the reason for replacing the battery is because the SOC keeps running low then it will not cure the problem only simply make the times between needing to charge the battery be a little longer.

If the reason for wanting to change the battery is because the dreaded Stop/Start isn't working then consider saving the planet by not throwing away a perfectly good battery. 🤔

Battery won't take a charge even on a charger.

I did have no S/S, all sensor beeps are through the small tinny speaker and the screen wants to shut down the system.

Is there a cure for this as I've changed to 95% charge via Forscan but I think the battery was that by then.

Could the Ford Power Up be causing a slow drain?

That does sound like you need a new battery. The factory fitted Varta do seem to have a poor life expectancy although they usually last until the vehicle is out of warranty.

You have already set the SOC to 95% which does help and if you fit the new larger capacity battery it will also help. Unfortunately as with all modern cars due to all the extra electronics and emissions controls it is very difficult to maintain a good state of charge unless you do a decent few miles everyday. The only solution is to top up the battery every 5 or 6 weeks with a Smart battery charger. Not the ideal answer but one that a great many of us here on the forum have been resigned to accept 🙁

Would happily charge every 6-8 weeks, however with off street parking my only option is to take the battery off the car and charge indoors which isn't really practical.

Yes that will be a big problem. I forget sometimes that not everyone can park on a driveway. Also charging the battery off the car will confuse the BMS, but not a major problem.

You will have a real problem when you are forced to own an EV 😕

Yeah, can't wait to queue for hours to charge at the public stations.

Hopefully by then things will have greatly improved.

I replaced a 60/600 Ford Varta with a YBX7096 in a Mk4 Focus, no issues.

Not yet bought the new battery, but now my B&O sounds like a phone speaker. I'm guessing this is related.

Yeah it does that when it can't communicate with the ACM. Either because you've opened and closed doors too many times (like during washing) or because battery is low and modules are shutting off to save power.
