Noise from car

Featured Replies

Hi guys

I been having a noise from the car while driving over checked my exhaust and couldn't find any holes, I jacked each wheel up and did the pull side to side, and back and forwards test and spin.

Front 2 wheels seem ok, I spun passenger rear and could hear slight scraping noise and I spun the drivers rear wheel and could hear a slight scrap and ticking/clicking noise.

Is this indicating a ball bearing fault starting and do they last a while or get it done.

Is it easier to change just the bearings or the bearing kit cause that looks like just four bolts and are they easy to do

Thanks guys.

sounds like the rear drum shoes

Can hear ticking/clicking if I spin the rear drivers wheel, but the wheel doesn't wobble when u do test with your hands side to side and back and forwards.

As Steplce74 says above, that sounds like your brake drum just contacting the back plate...perfectly normal, if it is that 👍

Are the rear wheel bearings easy to change on ti vct MK2 focus.

Do you replace the ball bearings on their own or just replace the whole things as that looks like just 4 bolts. Anyone done this.

Thanks guys

Yes, it is just those 4 bolts.  When they were new, it was fairly easy...now they're old and rusty, it can be a massive hassle.

If you round off a bolt, it can't be removed.  If you snap a bolt in the arm, it's no longer safe to drive.

Thanks for the replies.

I can hear a tick/click on driver's rear wheel if u spin it.

I'm going on a 250 Mile trip next month and is it ok to drive it or get done before I go.  Do they seize up, snap or just get very noisy

Thanks

Worst case scenario the wheel could fall off.  Though that rarely happens nowadays.  Usually just keep getting louder and louder and starts to feel 'loose' in a straight line.

I don't want to take responsibility for that decision.  Best advice I can offer would be asking a local MOT tester to have a listen/feel and let him decide how bad it is in person.

Hi

Looking at mot a previous owner changed offside rear wheel at 58k, now the cars at 95k. Are the likely to on that mileage again?.

I've had few quotes most garages £150, then a garage said about 80 pound supply and fit.

Seems odd if the same bearing has failed again but maybe it was a cheaper, lower quality part.

£80 supply & fit sounds way too cheap to me.  I'd be looking to pay more like £120 around here.  So £150 doesn't sound too bad for London.
