Fiesta MK7.5 strange headlight DRL problem

Featured Replies

Fiesta S-line 2017 MK7.5

Here’s a weird one, car had a OSF knock & the light unit was replaced before I bought it, Now when you unlock the car the DRL’s light up When you start the car they go off? Then when you indicate the DRL of the side the indicator is flashing then comes on? Also headlight beam height adjustment doesn’t work.

So on looking I noticed the OSF headlight was an aftermarket one, So replaced it with a genuine Ford part but still the same? Any ideas??

Thanks

Someone has been messing about with the lighting parameters in the BCM.

You need to use FORScan and reload the "AsBuilt" file from the Ford servers.

The car will fail it's MOT the way the lights are now, and it is a legal requirement for a vehicle of its age to have working DRL's

Don't have access to that, Is it a Ford dealer thing?

Someone really should make this a no-reply sticky thread...  That way we could just copy & paste a link to it each time someone asks.

I may have to try somewhere local that does this 🙂

Any Ford dealer or Ford specialist will be able to reload the AsBuilt file for around £200

That's why we buy the £20 cables and do it ourselves...

For a free attempt, you could try fully charging the car battery, if parking arrangements allow.  LEDs are very sensitive to voltage and this odd DRL behaviour is sometimes caused by low battery voltage.

Does the height adjuster not work on either side?  Is it definitely plugged in on both light clusters?

Both plugs are in, like I say I thought it was the after market OSF headlight that was doing it but no, yes both sides on adjuster, wiring all looks in good order so.... pass

Not long since had a new battery

Adjusters not working is an odd one (and definitely an MOT fail).

There were no auto-adjusters on Fiestas, so even with the wrong headlights selected in the BCM, I'd expect the manual adjusters to work correctly.  At the moment, I don't think the two faults are necessarily linked.

It's possible that the light switch is faulty, though seems unlikely. Have you checked fuse F4 in the cabin fusebox?
