MK7 fiesta no handbrake after shoe replacement

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’ve just replaced the shoes on my fiesta after an MOT failure on a lagging service brake. After replacing the shoes ive got the service brake to work fine but the handbrake isn’t, operating the handle doesn’t do anything at all. Any idea how to adjust the handbrake to get it to hit the drum. I’ve read self adjusting techniques but they don’t seem to be working unless I’m doing it wrong.

cheers Tom

Did you definitely reconnect the cables to the shoes?

Drum self adjusters are pretty useless as the age.  You will need to manually adjust them by turning the ratchet until the shoes are 'just' about touch the drum.
