Transit not starting

Featured Replies

Good morning. I recently took my mk7 swb fwd transit 100 t280 on a 700 mile journey. During this time, the manifold to intercooler pipe formed a lovely 3” cut. So naturally, it was down on power and throwing codes for low boost pressure.

I plugged it into FORScan and read the codes for low pressure to turbo and cleared them after replacing pipe. It then threw up that the map sensor was reading poor so I took the inlet manifold and EGR off and cleaned out all the carbon. New inlet seals, new throttle body seal and new seals for the EGR. Popped it all back together, went to crank and it would not start.

I plugged into FORScan, read 6 codes which I hit save log/profile but for whatever reason, the log has not saved. However, the generic log saved but I can’t find the DTC’s in it.

it threw up codes for low fuel pressure in the rail, maf sensor reading, map sensor reading and 3 boost related faults. (I think the wife tried to crank it while I went to wash myself up before plugging in the sensors but she claims otherwise)I cleared these codes thinking the log/profile saved and now I have a cranking engine with no fault codes and not starting.

I retraced my steps, stripping it all apart to make sure I missed no plugs and found nothing looking incorrect. I was a tech for 12 years so I’m not some numpty diving in with no knowledge. However, I no longer have communication with the place I worked to consult with the guys so thought I’d come here and ask if anyone has any suggestions.

Is it possible the battery charge has dropped while you've been working on it?  Might be worth charging it or using jump leads to rule that out.

Did you have to open any fuel pipes to access the inlet & EGR?  And if so, does the Transit use a lift pump or could it need manually priming now?

No fuel pipes were touched. The EGR is water cooled so that’s the only pipes I removed. All sensors came off smoothly and popped on ok. Battery is at 12.3v so more than enough punch. It has a leisure battery in it so it’s got enough juice to run off the both!

Have you tried deleting the profile in Forscan and starting a new one?

If still no codes showing, use live data to check the fuel rail pressure when cranking.  Needs to be above 200 bar before it'll attempt to fire the injectors.

I’ll have a look at that later today and see. I haven’t deleted the profile. It’s annoying it didn’t save the dtc log and the generic log won’t hold codes it found!

Trying it now. Over 200 bar. Still no codes when cranking. Losing my patience with this thing

Is the immobiliser light flashing?

Can you check the crank sensor signal on Forscan?

I’ll have a look, just stripped down checking all sensor wires and pins for damage

So I’ve found the issue. One of the pins on the throttle body plug had popped. A little bit of glue and it’s running a treat! ***** engines and electrics, honestly! I appreciate the help!
