Need to understand how wing mirror indicator works.

Featured Replies

Hi folks, struggling with track down problem with wing mirror . Fully stripped mirror. Indicator wiring goes through connectors in to door loom.

When indicator on, it's not flashing, but middle wire (blue one out of three) in to mirror regulation motor, have electrical signal. To pass car test, I've connected that blue wire to brown indicator wire in order get indicator work.

But that's still not right.

Is there somewhere mixed up wiring ?

Maybe someone have driver side wing mirror wiring diagram ?

Thanks.

Can you post some photos of the DOOR mirror wiring ?

Is this a replacement ?

Wing mirror consist:

-3 wires which goes in to motor,

-2 wires goes mirror heating

-2 wires goes to indicator.

If I understand, all them have common ground wire. Ive checked ground wire on resistance mode with electrical tester, and it works good, mirror ground wire checked with some bolt on door, and it had good connection (no resistance).

Brown (obviously live wire) I've checked same way up untill door loom goes in sill, there is no issues, no resistance ( all connections are good).

When indicator is on, mirror indicator wire (brown) does nothing, but middle wire in motor harness (blue wire) had pulsing power. So, when I joined blue wire to brown wire to indicator, it did indicate. Now mirror indicator works, and mirror controls works also...  anyway.. passed car test.

maybe anyone would think that's great, got it working, and leave at that, but I do still know, that something is wrong, and indication goes wrong way... Mean by wrong wire.

maybe need to find relay or comfort module, which feed indicator, and try to figure out with cable tracker or electric tester where things are wrong..

thanks.

You vastly underestimate the complexity of the control systems. Have you checked and tested the DDM or the GEM ?

That would be the GEM

Looking at the wiring diagram I’ve got (for mk2 facelift) the mirror indicators are either fed both signal and ground from the door module if you’ve got one or directly from the GEM and a wired earth connection if you don’t have door module. Wiring colours for either spec don’t seem to match what you’ve mentioned above, but here are the schematics for your info anyhow.

My wing mirror has started to spark when indicating, could there be something wrong with my wires?

Indicator bulbs take such a small amount of power I'm surprised you'd see a visible spark from them.  Where exactly are you seeing it?
