Sounds like a faulty barrel.

Oh sorry, misread the post.

It can only be a poorly cut blade in that case.  Try a different key cutters.

I don't know if you Tibbe key was just copied, but I thught Ford dealers did it from knowing the VIN.

There might just be sufficient wear on the source key to stop the new being a copy that works.

Key code/number won't be from knowing the vin. There would have originally been a key number with the keys from new but most get lost. Easy enough to read the tibbe keys even if there worn quite a bit.

Yep, agree, poorly cut . I've cut hundreds of tibbe keys over the years. Only time I cut key badly was if I hadn't put the blank in the cutting machine fully before tightening the key in. There's only 4 depths of cuts ( 3 if you ignore cut 1 as it isn't a cut.

Sometimes the cut key can be troublesome to turn if the cut edges are not smoothed down a bit ( the cutting machine came with a wire wheel to smooth the edges down)

Here is an example of the 4 cuts. Screenshot_20230816-220500.thumb.png.feffd520d5fcd33c4d725816c7f39c9d.png

The image of the keys isn't clear enough to identify the code, looks like 1,4,4,1,2,1

Not so much lost, but kept by the previous owner in their "gubbins" box........

So the six digits on the tab which are in the range of 1-4, indicate how the key is cut ?

I wonder if there's a faulty batch of Tibbe blades?  Can you see any difference on the sides or tip of your spare compared to the new one(s)?

No they look the same

I've reread the posts, but how do they work in the door or boot lock ?  I may have missed this.

From my experience, any Tibbe Key will lock the door, but it needs to be correct to open the door/boot.

Are they original Ford blades?

Is the key being read for the coding the correct key for the car?

If they are aftermarket blades then the length may be wrong therefore throwing the cut alignment out.

It may be worth getting a locksmith to physically read the lock barrel to ensure the coding is correct.

There is a proper lock decoder that is easy to get and learn to use yourself.

The edges are still probably a little to sharp. Feel the key compared the the original working one
