How to check if refrigerant level is low?

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a ford focus 2013 1.0. The AC does not work. I tested the relay and the fuse and they are fine. The compressor clutch does not engage on pressing the AC button. Now, after lots of googling it could be a ?low pressure lock out. I would like to know to test if it is actually low pressure that is causing the clutch to not engage without no/less tools. I have a multimeter. I do not want to regas without confirming the clutch and the compressor work. Thank you.

My money is on you are low on gas

If you go to one of the multiple 'KwikFit' type garages (other brands are available), they offer a money back guarantee when recharging A/C. If it doesn't work, you'll get a full refund so no risk in doing so.

Thank you i will do that

FORScan will tell you the gas pressure if I remember correctly you need about 300kpa minimum for the a/c to run.

1. connect the relay pins 30-87 or

2. run a live to the ac coil.

only run it for a few seconds because you could seize the compressor.

Hey, it worked! Thank you. It's blowing very cool air but it smells like a rat died inside. I will replace the pollen filter. However, I don't know why it smelled like that when it was with the compressor on and not before when I was using just the fan or heating. (Have recently started to learn to things on my own car)

Thank you. I will keep that in mind. For now the AC is working with the regas. But your comment will certainly help me in the future!

Great catch! I've paid £10 each in the past for similar, just nipped into Tesco and bought a few!

they normally have them on offer at least once a year. wilko has them on offer now and again, but as it`s getting ready to close-down they wont have much of anything in the shops now 🙁

SPAR!

Was in one this morning and saw this, was really shocked. Yes, I know Spar in general is a ripoff, being just an 'emergency' shop, not one for the weekly trolley, but still, at £10, 4 x Tesco price? Wonder who buys them apart from guys who have a company supplied fuel card and knock a bit of shopping on it to ease their bills!

some sucker will pay that price in spar 🤣 , think if you look the average price is around £6+ depending on the brand. i can remember about 10yrs ago poundland had the air-con cleaners in i had a job-lot then (thats when they never sold anything over £1 ) 😁
