Trailer Sway Control

Featured Replies

Well, recently had my first "colly-wobble" when towing my caravan - first time ever, that is!

I know the cause, so no problem there. And I followed "The Procedure" - so no problem there either.

But just out of sight - and very distracting - I was aware of a red light flashing on the instrument panel. One that I can't identify as part of the startup procedure display.

So I looked in the towing section of the handbook - and it refers to "Trailer Sway Control". here's a link to the online manual Trailer Sway Control

Now according the the brochure for the car, this is an optional extra.

So I'm guessing it was installed as part of the software update when the towbar was fitted.

But - how does it know the trailer has started to snake?

I could guess, but if anyone has knowledge of this - or knows a link to where I can find it - I'd like to know.  And also - is my guess that it comes as part of the software update correct?

The best I can find is This Link , but I'd like to be a tad better informed

Thanks - Richard.

It uses the yaw sensor to detect lateral body movement in the car.  Same way the ESP works.

If it senses a rhythmic rear end wobble with a trailer plugged in, it will be programmed to respond differently than without a trailer plugged in.
