Power mirrors fault - Advice

Featured Replies

Hi,

We purchased a used ford fiesta 09 recently and found that there appears to be an error with the left hand power mirror. When locking the car, the right hand mirror folds in - but the left stubbornly stays out. From looking online, I tried the manual option with the button in the car that controls the power mirrors and pressed it down to hopefully resynchronise them. The same happened as before. I also checked the vehicle settings and turned the link to lock option on. The peculiar this is... the slight angle adjustment for the left hand mirror works perfectly fine on the manual button. A strange one so hopped on here to see if anyone had any ideas. We are due to take the car in for some pre-scheduled work in the next few weeks and will ask them then, but thought it would be worth a shot to ask in the meantime. Thank you in advance!

So does the nearside door mirror fold in by any electrical means or does it just stay in the open position ?

Has the door mirror been replaced by a non-power fold unit ?

The near side mirror can be adjusted via the button on the door that controls the orientation. It tilts up and down as normal. However, it won’t manually fold in when the button is pulled down (which I believe should fold them both in). It also subsequently doesn’t fold in when the car is locked. No mention of a non-power fold unit being fitted.

So… it’s a strange one!

Not so strange I think. Just that the mirror unit has been replaced in the past with the non-power fold version which are quite common, and much cheaper.

Call back and update us when you have been to the garage.

Would it be possible to tell from the codes located on the underside of the mirror? I’ve attached an image if it’s of any convenience.

They are safety type approvals and all mirrors for that car will have the same external markings.

For those old enough to remember Blue Peter, here's one I did earlier 🤣

check out this on eBay, I think it is what you need - POWER FOLD (the painted caps are easily transferred)

.....and this is what you probably have fitted - NON POWER FOLD

Yep that’s most likely the prob, will update when we take it back to the dealer for a checkup.

Another small issue which I hope someone could advise us on…

The car appears to display BOOT OPEN, even when it is shut (and we’ve tried firmly doing so with no difference). When driving we’re also notified with the same message along with the light indicator depicting a car with open doors. We believe this has to be an issue with the boot. Subsequently, when locked - the alarm randomly triggers.

When stationary with the car unlocked but all doors closed, the courtesy light stays on. Again we think this all has to do with the boot.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Was looking for some hope as it’s extremely annoying and wanted to check our trail of thought was along the right lines narrowing it down to the boot.

Many thanks in advance.

Very common fault with the boot latch. There is a small microswitch inside (not serviceable) which detects when the tailgate is closed.

Replacement latch is easy to fit (less than 30 minutes) and can be bought on eBay for around £25

**UPDATE**

Took car to garage this morn, boot latch was identified as the problem - as suggested, and they were happy to replace. Problem appears to have now gone away.

The problem with the near side power mirror was apparently the motor. Which is also being replaced in due course.
