Cambelt change - Fiesta Zetec 2013 1L

Featured Replies

Hi all

My Fiesta Zetec 1L, now 10 years old, is due its new cambelt. Local Ford dealer has quoted £1600 for the job, which seems a lot! I've called a few local garages, none of which want to touch it, and the local Mr Clutch said they don't do it either!

Is it a really specialised job, and is it something that I'll just need to get the dealer to do for £1600, or do you think I might be able to find cheaper?

Thanks

Simon

Yes, it's a specialist job.  Have a search online for 'wet belt' replacement.  It requires a major engine strip down.  Plus a very expensive torque multiplier tool which most small garages won't have.

£1600 is about right for London, but can be a few hundred cheaper in other locations.  Very unlikely to find anyone doing it for less than £1000.

Thanks for the reply.

Does my car definitely have a wetbelt? I've seen some conflicting info online.

According to my paperwork, I have a 2013 Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.0 with a Duratec 75/80ps 1.0l engine. (Can't see any mention if Ecoboost anywhere!) Have seen some posts online that it's a chain rather than wetbelt?

Thanks

Simon

The 1.0 3 cylinder engine is basically an Ecoboost without the turbo, so yes, unfortunately.

Thanks for that. Looks like I will have to bite the bullet!

Just as an aside, if the engine is an Ecoboost to all intents and purposes, is it susceptible to catching fire that I've read so much about, or is it isolated to actual Ecoboost models?

Cheers.

Never say never with Ford, but I believe that was coollng hose issues on Focus/C-Max, and a separate issue on 4 cylinder ecoboosts.

Not heard of similar issues with the non-turbo 3 cyl,but there don't seem to be many of those around anyway. Very few queries about them on here, for instance.

I could be wrong but I thought all Duratecs were 4 cylinders. Best to open the bonnet and count the number of plug leads. Three it's a wet belt Ecoboost type engine, four and its an older dry belt engine.

Just a label for non turbo petrol afaik. Can't remember last time Ford produced a 1.0 4 cyl - Anglia?

Simon could post a pic of his engine for us to identify to be 100% sure, but one below:

Duratec is just branding.  Even the 3.0 V6 was branded a Duratec.

Thanks for all your responses, guys.

Have attached photo of engine!

That confirms 3 cyl non turbo (wet belt unfortunately).

Likewise Ecoboost can be any petrol turbo from 3 cyl 1.0 to 3.5 V6. Not very helpful as an identifier!😀

I know it was just branding but I thought that it was only applied to 4 and 6 cylinder pre-Ecoboost engines - apparently not so I stand corrected.

The 5 cylinder turbo was also branded as a Duratec.

It really is just rubbish, the engines with that branding share nothing more than being fuelled by petrol.  Diesels of the same era got branded with DuraTorq, again multiple engine types, only sharing the diesel fuelling.
