Egr blanking

Featured Replies

Hi all New on here just purchased a 1.8 tdci 2010 day after I bought I was giving a good drive round as you do with a new car and when I parked up I hear bubbling and the expansion tank lid pops and chucks some water out.

Been mechanic he says building up pressure in the cooling system and reckons could be egr cooler he didn't think it would be headgasket as car runs fine otherwise and has steel head/gasket but couldn't look properly as was going on holiday

After looking into this could be easier to black it off which could possibly do myself but wanted to ask has anybody had any issues doing this without car being mapped after and also how would I connect the water pipes together

Mechanic has said this is what he'll be doing to check the egr but being impatient can't wait till after his holiday and save a few quid doing myself

Any advice much appreciated

I would change the Pressure Cap and keep a daily eye on the Coolant level before doing anything else.

Can join water pipes together with a simple copper plumbing joint and jubilee clips.  Just make sure the ends of the joint are beaded.

1.8 TDCI should be ok with an EGR blank.

You can use a CO2 sniff test to check whether the coolant pressure is being caused by exhaust gasses or not.

Any idea what the width of the pipes are to get the right size copper pipe cheers

No.  You'd have to measure them on your car I'm afraid.

I also don't recommend permanently blanking a working EGR.  Only if it's found to be leaking.
