Clutch issues? Is it common? 1.5 diesel mk4 focus

Featured Replies

Hi, I've done a couple of posts on here since getting my focus mk4.

I've had issues with the gearbox mount being worn when I got it, got that fixed (they said that was common on the cars). Now it's time for the clutch issue which was there also when I bought it, basically I'll cut it short, i bought the 68 plate 1.5 diesel mk4 focus st line x at 37,905 miles.. noticed the issue a couple of weeks into having the car, so eventually the dealer is now going to replace the clutch however the service manager said it will happen again as it's a common issue, I asked how many miles do you think? He said "hmmm I dno maybe 30/40k" .. I work as a home carer all over Glasgow and Renfrewshire areas so I need a reliable car, I can't afford to fork out money when the clutch goes again. I can't find much online about this being a "common issue". So question is has anyone got an issue with the clutch? Particularly on that model. I don't know what to do now if it is, I wouldn't of got the car if I'd known 😭

Thanks,

Donna

Not familiar with issues specific to Mk4 Focus, someone on here will advise, but normally clutch issues really depend on type of journeys and driving styles.

If you drive loads of short stop/start journeys which I suspect as a carer, you will obviously wear a clutch out faster than someone who just does long motorway journeys. If you drive whilst resting your foot on the clutch pedal, excess pressure can accelerate wear on the clutch.

Perhaps you bought the car and that was one of the driving characteristics by the previous owner(s)?

Having the clutch replaced, whilst costly should give you many more miles of reliable motoring providing good quality parts are used.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, I can't find anything anywhere about it being a common issue either like the guy at the dealer said. I understand driving styles etc will impact the clutch, however this was bought like this so it was definitely from one of the previous owners.

I honestly think the guy was hoping I'd just be like "uck just leave it then" or something by telling me it'll go again in 30/40k miles yet I can't see one single thing about it being common on 1.5 diesels in particular 🤔 will wait and see if the new clutch fixes all the issues, let's hope they can do this job right as I got new brake discs and pads all round and this will be the 2nd time I'm back at them for an issue with them 😂 give me strength lol.

Thanks,

Donna
