Oil pressure at start up

Featured Replies

I have a 15 plate fiesta eco boost with 36k miles (I don’t go far!) .  It was mot/serviced with oil & filter change 5 months ago. The oil level is ok. The oil pressure light comes on/straight back off on first start up. It doesn’t come back on again then.  I’ve read a few threads on here but these seem to imply theirs are intermittent. I’ve also seen that this can be normal as the pressure adjusts with rpm increase. The car can be stood days without use. It’s making no noises and does have full service history. Any advice?

Could you clarify what you're asking. Have you noticed anything different regarding the oil pressure light or just asking if the way it's operating is normal?

Ordinarily the oil light will always be on if the ignition is on and the engine off.

The oil light should go out immediately once the engine has started and not come on at all until you turn it off.

If the oil light doesn't go out immediately after starting or it flickers at low revs you should get it checked out asap.  Serious damage to the engine could occur if the oil pressure is low for any reason

Hi, sorry my first time posting.  Thanks for replying.  Was more to see if this was normal after reading about so many bigger issues.  Nothing else seems off, light/warning does go off as quick as it comes on.  From what you’ve said it does seem the norm, I’ve just never had it and with it being the oil light I’d rather ask.
I called and booked a check with my dealership but the first app is 11th September.

No problem. Always best to ask.

No doubt you've read some of the horror stories about Ecoboost engines (especially the earlier 1.0 versions).

From what you've said, everything seems as it should be. Keep it regularly serviced, always using consumables to the correct specifications.

If you do decide to keep the car long term, you might consider having the cambelt replaced earlier than your service book recommends. Expensive to have done but could be a good investment if you consider the car a keeper. Good luck!

Thanks again.  It’s put my mind at ease a lot!  I had read the horror stories but couldn’t work out if what I’d seen was the same issues, was 99% sure the light would always be on if it was a problem.

Cheers 😊
