Extended Warranty - is it a good idea ?

Featured Replies

                 Hello everyone,

Has anybody got experience of the Ford extended warranty ?  I see it is offered for year 4 and year 5 and as I may purchase a Ford with the Ecoboost engine this weekend or early next week I was thinking this may be a good way to go in future if the car is kept after 3 years in view of the dreaded wet belt cloud that can hang over owners outside of warranty.   Looking around it looks this would be covered but if anybody has experience of trying to claim on extended warranty I'd be most interested.  Also, if anybody took the warranty extension out at first registration or purchased it after 3 years.

Im now in this very same position, so would be interested to hear of anyones thoughts / experience.  Thanks

My dealer offered a Ford Protect additional warranty when the 3 years ran out on mine.

I've bought another 3 years and it's going in next week for a claim on the high level third brake light (one segment has died).

I'll let you know how I get on.

All sorted under warranty.

Ford Protect were a little more pedantic than the base warranty, requiring a photo of the broken light, but other than that no issues.

After reading the above, really considering taking out the extra warranty on mine. Especially after the fiasco i'm having at the moment with mine on another thread!

Seems to be worth it and quite straight forward, thought they would have wanted you to go all around the houses @alexp999

Thanks for the update. I changed cars last month so got warranty for 3 years but good to know the extension seems like a good option. Be interesting to see how they would deal with a major failure such as an engine or gearbox failure
