Bcfclee27
Hi everyone, what a great group this is... My 2010 Ford Smax is in very good condition and is well looked after. Done just over 100k miles. The other day i had to accelerate hard from a junction in first and second gear and noticed i had left a cloud of black smoke behind me. Changed the oil filter, cabin filter, air filter and fuel filter over last few months but still not resolved the black smoke. Any ideas what this could be, im thinking now possibly turbo problem ? Many thanks Lee
DaveT70
Probably normal for that age, but with that mileage, you may have a weeping injector

TomsFocus
If you rarely drive hard, soot builds up inside the exhaust, and is then blasted out as a black cloud on the rare occasion that you do drive hard. For this reason, MOT testers always 'purge' the exhaust before taking a reading. (Thrash the nuts off of it for 30 seconds) If you're regularly getting black smoke, then I would agree with you that it sounds like a potential turbo boost leak. Thanks for your help Are you sure it's got a DPF? Not all of them did at that age. But no, if it's being caused by driving style, there is no mechanical way to change that.
