Engine Management Light after Engine Replacement

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm a Witt's end here and in desperate need of some advice.

My 2020 Fiesta ST Line succumbed to the fatal wetbelt 2 months back promoting an engine and turbo replacement as I believed my car was still worth the cost of replacement.

A few days later I got an Engine management light code P0010. Took it back the the garage who said it was to do with the Cams. They reset the light. I drove away and it came back on. Returned to the garage after the weekend where they did the same certain it was nothing wrong. It came on for a third time and they said I need a new sensor. So today I paid an extra £91 on top of the £4k for the engine works as apparently the sensor is from my old engine.

Low and behold the lights back on. Same code P0010. What's the next step? Will I have to fork out even more money for work or will these parts have been part of the new engine ?

Any help would be appreciated

Can you confirm whether they changed the camshaft sensor OR the camshaft solenoid?

They have changed the Cam Sensor today. Unfortunately all communication seems to have broken down the moment they got my money. I've tried a few times to get a comprehensive list from them and have been promised on multiple occasions to no avail

Well that was a waste of time and money.  It's the solenoid they should've replaced for this fault code.

Thanks for the info. I'm reluctant to give them anymore of my money to fix this. I've just looked online and the solenoid seems a fairly simple fix so I'll look at sourcing the part and fitting myself.

Is this a part that would of come from my old engine ? As if it's part of a new engine then I have a 12 month warranty with it

Surely a 2020 Fiesta would still be under Ford's 3 year warranty ?

I thought that...then realised we're 3/4s through 2023.

Yes that's the right part.  I can't access part numbers for 2020 models but I think these solenoids are all the same anyway.

Your code is for the intake camshaft, so that's the one at the back of the engine, nearest the bulkhead.

It could also be a wiring fault, but if it was mine I'd take a punt on the solenoid itself.

Out of interest, has an independent garage serviced the car?  This is one of the newest we've seen with wetbelt failure.

Will have a punt and order that part. Was serviced at ford by myself but Halfords and Kwik Fit by the previous owner.

Strangely it was running fine. I do close to 20k miles a year. Left it while I went on holiday for a week and the first drive back after sitting for a week it went. My current mileage is 78k

Ah, with that mileage and non-Ford servicing it's less of a surprise.  I expect one of those garages used the wrong oil or an engine flush.

Cars hate to be left standing.  The belts do seem to fail slightly more often after they've been left for at least a few days.  I think they probably start to dry out and get a bit stiff so the next drive is the final straw for a worn and weakened belt.

This should serve as a warning to those who think "oil is just oil" and "any garage will service my Ecoboost correctly"

Not eveyone is aware (or even care) of the sensitive nature of the ecoboost 1.0 and the need to use only the exact Ford specification oil. Also many garages think they are doing good (or putting the cost up) by doing an oil flush, and or, using oil additives.

Yeah thinking of cutting ties with this fiesta once I have the EML sorted. Maybe to my mother as she does super low mileage and might appreciate the rest of the 12 month warranty more than a garage 😂

Any horror stories I should know about the 1.5 EcoBlue Diesel engines before I get too invested in looking ?

Just ordered that part. Don't suppose you have any idea where I could find some instructions on replacing the part. Tried YouTube and a Google search but nothing for this model.

It's only 3 bolts and a plug, nothing complicated.

Thank you both for your help on this. Changed the part yesterday and reset the light and hadn't come back on since.
