Help! Auto box... fluid?

Featured Replies

If you know about the automatic gearbox on a 2013 Fiesta, any help much appreciated!!! It's my daughter's car and she's 200 miles from home. First the car wouldn't start but she got a jump start and drove the car. Then, half an hour later, the automatic box started to slip - like a really badly slipping clutch. She's managed to get to a friend's place but is stuck with trying to get the car sorted so she can get home.

It was 1993 that I last had a car with an automatic box - a Ford Granada. If I recall correctly, you could top up the ATF under the bonnet somewhere. Does the 2013 Fiesta have a similar reservoir that you can check the level and top up?? Any pointers on where to find it, procedure and any other tips much appreciated. I've tried Google and YouTube and can't find anything on it. Suggests to me that there's no user-checkable levels any more?? My experience of automatics is 30 years out of date!

Topping up the ATF seems like the first thing that's worth trying before turning the car over to a garage for potentially expensive work.

Thanks!

There's no fluid to check or top up for the driver.

These gearboxes are very sensitive to voltage.  With the jump start shortly before, I reckon it probably needs a new battery.

Totally agree. The Auto gearbox on these are hyper sensitive to low voltage and poor batteries. I don't recommend that you keep jump-starting it or you may end up with much bigger problems like a dead Body Control Module.

Powershift only works on power alone, no LIMP or LOS strategy. No power, no transmission.

Put a new battery on the vehicle and perform a transmission reset as described in video - do not keep charging battery and do not keep jump starting.

Car will settle down around 200 miles after the battery has been changed
