Heater matrix Ford Focus

Featured Replies

I am owner of Ford Focus 1.0 Eco boost registered in 2013

the car has done 60,000 miles and as per manufacturer's maintenance schedule, I had the cam belt and water pump changed.

After I picked up the car from the garage, and drove home, the coolant level dropped rapidly and I was told that the heater matrix seal had failed. (there was absolutely no problem with the heater matrix or cooling system when the car was taken to the garage for cam belt / water pump change)

the garage changed the heater matrix to new design with no seal but charged me for the work

The question is :

after water pump change , does the garage test the coolant system, is this like a pressure test to look for leaks. Could this have caused the heater matrix seal failure (have had no problems with this before) or is there anything else the garage may have done. I find it very difficult to understand why the matrix seal failed immediately after water pump change. Note : a service was carried out before cam belt / water pump change and no leaks whatsoever were reported

I'm having the exact same issues in the same circumstances - 2013 focus 1.0L ecoboost coming up to 60K miles, changed the timing belt on recommendation (10 years) and discovered the carpets were soaked this week on the passenger side. Took it in the garage and they said heater matrix failure. Coincidence?
