MK2 restyling alternator spikes voltage during cold weather.

Featured Replies

During autumn and winter months my Ford Focus MK2 (2009 restyling) has these weird electrical flickers and sometimes won't even start. I've been driving it in and out of shops and the only thing one electrician found was that the alternator was overcharging while that was happening during drives. He suggested we try changing it and see what happens and I might just do that as I am out of options. Dashboard is looking good, soldered good, car works great during summer. Main issue is that it won't start during cold months. I could be at a petrol station, filling the tank up, and suddenly it wont start... After waiting for an hour it would start but there would be issues like flickering dashboard or you could hear weird static noises...

Well that's a new terminology !  Normally it just gets called the Mk2.5 or the Mk2 facelift.

Flickering instrument panel lights is either the IC needs to be professionally resoldered,  or there is water ingress to the GEM

Could be the smart charging cable faulty, you can buy solder in replacements, on eBay, as it’s a common problem, also a common problem on all Fords of the two thousands, is the ignition switch, electrical part, which are easy to change and very cheap.
