PSNI no longer prosecute for expired MOT, as long as...

Featured Replies

You may be aware that NI is served by government run MOT stations. However, since the lockdown, they have got themselves into loads of issues of horrendous delays in being able to book tests. (a symptom of government management).

Often having dates 3+ months from when MOT expires. My mum's car is soon due, and with the reminder letter, this leaflet was inserted. Confirms that the police won't prosecute as long as you can prove you have booked a date. It also states that the car must be roadworthy, bit difficult without an MOT 😂

A car should always be roadworthy when used on public roads - all drivers should be checking tyres, wipers, bulbs etc regularly to ensure that.

UK police rarely bother with expired MOT either.  It's insurance and tax that they're mainly interested in.

I wonder how that would work with Breakdown Cover. At least one of the large organisations, and maybe more of them will not attend a breakdown if the car has no MOT.
