Headlight Scratches or Restoration

Featured Replies

Evening all,

Take a look at the pictures, the passenger side headlight (n/s) looks heavily scratched but I can't tell if they or internal but they seem to be diffusing the light and making it dimmer. It's noticable when driving but I'm not getting any "flashes" It's only become an issue when my "xenon" bulbs blew and I replaced them back to the originals that came with the car.

I've seen lens restoration kits online and curious if it's worth it if I can't tell if the scratches on the internal side.

Test a patch with wet and dry sandpaper then you can polish it with a buffer to bring the clarity back but you will need some headlight protection sealant to stop the uv light making it yellow.

Yes there are many headlight restoration kits out there. I found the Auto Glym one worked really well on a previous car. The kit is comprehensive and all you need is a drill preferably a cordless.

1200 grit wet and dry and tooth paste if on a budget... its UV damage from the sun - the bit you really need it the UV sealant that you get in decent kits to keep the effect for more than a month

either aldi or lidl do one now and then...

go gradually finer with the wet and dry, use plenty of water, then move to a polishing pad for the final finish. Once done tho you'll need to keep on top of them. Find a can of UV resistant clear laquer and give them a mist. I bought a set of 3" pads and velcro dollies cheap ebay, fits perfectly into my cordless drill.
