Cold start low rpm for a second

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a focus mk2 2005 1.6l petrol with 115hp. When I start it, usually in the morning, it does not go to ~1.2k rpm but stays (and sometimes stalls) between 500-600 for 1 second or so.

This is especially annoying since the ti-vct rattles and it makes it even worse sometimes. Does that have to do with it, or is it a different thing?

I have also noticed how when the rpm finally goes to the cold start progress, the screen backlight dims, meaning that something right at that moment starts to draw some serious power.

Any ideas?

Get FORScan and read any codes.

If you see lots of "LOST COMMUNICATION WITH>>>>>>" and, more importantly "THEFT DETECTED" then suspect the common solder breakdown on the instrument cluster

Don't press throttle when starting, if you are

There is a lost communication code, a mechanic said. So is this the cause for the delay you think? I've also fixed the cluster solder.

As long as it was fixed correctly and not just reflowed, then start looking for any CAN continuity issues anywhere

Our Mk2.5 did this the other day but stayed at 500rpm until I feathered the throttle. I suspected the throttle body was sticking and may need a clean out. It hasn't done it again yet.

And Dave, before you say "cluster" I resoldered that last year with leaded solder and there are no codes .
