Dash cams

Featured Replies

Is there any need to hard wire a dash cam into a ford puma 2023 when all the sockets turn off after 30 mins of locking car , will a dash cam drain the battery to much in the 30 mins ??

Most people who hardwire do it to hide the wiring.

My dashcam is powered by a 12v socket, but wiring fully concealed - I'm not an animal LOL

I mean around the 12v socket, mine is hardwired, you don't see any wiring, plugs or sockets other than the bit coming down from the headliner and it keeps the 12v socket free for other things.

I appreciate your ethos, I'm too lazy to 'hard wire', all done by extension sockets LOL

Hi John. To answer your question. But first off your question veered off from hardwired to 12v socket powered.

Now then to answer your question. No there isn't a need to hardwire a dashcam. However if you want to see trailing wires then by all means use an available 12v socket.

Hardwiring is the proper way to do it. There are 2 methods to hardwire. 1 is to have the dashcam wired so its on 100% ofvthe time. 2 is to have it wired so that it comes on with the ignition.

So then. What is it you're actually after doing? If you want hardwired then there are a number of threads here already giving great advice.

Was just clearing up posts that ask about wether the accessory socket stays live all the time , it doesn't it turns off after 30 mins so you can leave your dash cam plugged in without draining the battery if you forget to turn it off , I know it’s best to hard wire and thanks for any reply’s

True for the puma, but not true for all Ford models. For example a 2013 Transit the socket is constant live
