Mk2 factory fitted sat-nav systems?

Featured Replies

I have an original Mk2 sales brochure from 2005.

There are several factory fitted GPS sat-nav systems shown as available options.

How common were these? I have never seen one on all of the Mk2s I have looked at for sale online.

I am sure they were an expensive option when these cars were new.

Got a feeling there were 2 systems, first one a basic sat nav that used the cluster to display the turn directions (maybe on the head unit too) then the full-on sat nav screen.

Maybe a £1500 upgrade with the full spec system which probably explains the low take up

I've never seen one in the flesh either.  Have seen a couple in facelifts.  Even on Mk3's nav was pretty rare.  Odd considering how cheap standalone sat navs were by the end of the noughties.

Thanks for the replies.

I am sure the standalone systems available in the mid 00s were much cheaper and more capable. The Ford in-car electronics did seem to lag behind at the time. The standard CD player looked 10 years out of date in 2005.
