Refitting door lock problem - mk7 ecoboost 1.0

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Can you humour me please. I've removed the door lock from an mk7 2016 ecoboost and simply cannot refit it.

I've checked videos on YouTube etc and it seems on mine the screw will not allow the lock to sit back in place. If I try and unwind the screw using a t20 torx to move it out of the way of the lock, it doesn't retract.

Looking at where the torx head is I reckon it needs to be 'closer' or the other side of the black plastic for it to be far enough out of the way of the lock, am I right? I didn't actually look in the door hole when I unscrewed it so unsure if that was its original position.

Please see attached files. Your help is appreciated!

It's probably ripped the threads out and just spinning now.  Use some sort of leverage (pry bar, flat screwdriver etc) to push it back while you try to unscrew it.

If the threads are that badly chewed that you can't get it back in again once the new lock is fitted, just use a hammer and long screwdriver to 'tap' the head back in.

Thanks for your reply Tom. I've spent a couple of hours on it this morning before seeing your post and have sorted it - the screw 'popped out' of its mount and so was further forward in the mechanism than it was supposed to be hence why the lock wouldn't fit. Impossible to see from the outside of the car and I only figured it out when I removed the complete door card giving me exposure to the mechanism.

I've attached some pictures in case it can help someone else out in future. FYI I had to use a pair of grips to get the screw head back in to its mounting so I can't see it being possible to fix this without the access given by removing the internal door card.
