Mk7 key programming

Featured Replies

Hi all, recently acquired a mk7 2012 fiesta with one key

Timpsons wanted silly money to have a second key programmed, so I have had a look online and tried and may have misunderstood the process.

I Had a blade cut online, bought a blank 3 button key and as per YouTube I turned the ignition 8 times waited for the Chime, held in a button on the new key, then the original.

the barrel will turn with the new key, and it will lock & unlock using the fob buttons but the red light in between the two dials just blinks red when I try to start the car.  when I put in the original key in it starts and the red light is solid for a couple of seconds then turns off.

I’m guessing the key needs to be programmed more Sophisticatedly than via the ignition? Seen a few odb boxes online, but want to make sure I’m looking at the right thing or if I have to pay someone to code one I will 🙂

Any advice appreciated

Andy

Hello Andy,

Your Ford keyfob is made of 3 parts. (1) The metal key blade. (2) The Transponder immobiliser (3) The remote lock/unlock.

It seems that you have managed to successfully deal with 1 and 3, so all you need to do is programme the car to recognise the new transponder chip.

You could be lucky since your car is a 2012 (NOT possible with 2013 onwards) you will be able to add the new key using a licensed version (£12) of FORScan and a vLinker FS cable. The process will delete all keys (transponder chips) from the car and you then need to re-add your existing key and then add your new key.
