Emissions issue on Focus St Line X 19 plate

Featured Replies

I have just failed an MOT on high CO emissions (6x) the amount. The car is 4 years old and i only bought the car 2nd hand in February this year. I have had halfords do a free CAT and Exhaust check and they have advised that it looks like an air / fuel ratio issue (pointing at to much fuel being injected in as when air filter totally removed no change) apparently this can be a software upgrade required - has anyone heard of this before ?

No.

You've probably got a faulty/weeping injector

Sounds like that free check was overpriced...

High CO is usually caused by a faulty cat.  The cat should convert CO into CO2.

On a 4 year old car, I wouldn't expect the cat to have failed already, unless there was another fault meaning raw petrol is going into it.

I wouldn't recommend this often but I think it will need to go to Ford for diagnosis.  If there is a PCM update they are the only ones who can apply it.  If there isn't they will have the proper equipment to test and diagnose the fault.

Which engine is is btw?  Do you have the emissions test print-out to make sure the engine type is correct?  MOT testers make more mistakes than you'd think!
