Ford focus MK3 gearbox or clutch overflow

Hi everyone,

 

I'm having a problem with my MK3 petrol 1.6 focus.

 

I have recently had a gearbox and clutch replacement. The clutch is making a weird noise when depressed in neutral. A sort of faint grinding noise. Also, sometimes (but rarely), I hear a grind shifting into 4th gear. In genral the gearbox doesn't feel like it used to.

 

I have also noticed a weird leak. Oil seems to be accumulating on top of the gearbox. It looks like it's coming from a overflow pipe. Does anyone know what this overflow is for ?

    Unfortunately I bought it myself from Poland as my garage couldn't find one. A friend of a friend then fitted it for me. He has had a look but doesn't know what's wrong either.

     

    I am wondering if the oil is coming from another place (attached photo). Does anyone know what that is ?

    That's a purge valve.  It takes petrol vapour from the tank and sucks it into the engine.  There's no oil in there.

    Does that breather hose actually come from a nipple on top of the gearbox?  If so, it should be attached near the radiator with a foam cap and be pointing upwards, not downwards like your picture.

    If that is fairly new gearbox oil it's a worrying colour.
