Focus getting warm inside car when in slow moving traffic

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Have a 71 plate Focus, engine wise temperature is fine, sits a 0 (half way) all the time, never overheated or goes any higher.

However, recently I have the temp set to Low on both driver and passenger and I've noticed when I'm in slow moving traffic for a while, like when coming home, the inside of the car gets pretty warm and I'm not sure why.

Anyone else experienced this?  If I switch aircon on, then it cools down ok etc but I'm not sure why its getting warm when on low temp setting and the fan speed is about half way along so should be blowing cold/cool air

Anyone else experienced this? As said car isn't overheating as engine temp is fine.

Thanks

Kev

The cabin air intake is just under the top edge of the bonnet, in slow moving traffic it will get hot under the bonnet and some of that warm air will be sucked in.

Hi Kev. If your car has aircon then leave it on All the time.

Problems with aircon occur because its hardly used. Aircon works to warm an interior too.

And dry it in winter too.

Great advice, in every car I have ever owned with A/C, it has never been switched off...

Thanks, all might well have to leave air con on.

I typically only turn the aircon on when its hot in the summer, leave it off otherwise due to the additional fuel usage plus due to sitting in traffic, I use the stop start and if I have aircon on, it starts the car up as soon as it detects a change in temp, even if not moved.

Car only averages 38 mostly, maybe occasionally gets to low 40s but mostly around 38, if real bad, drops to 36...

On last fill up and reset, total miles was under 400 miles to the tank.

Thanks again!

Kev

As advised above …. Leave the AC on all year round.

You know what. I've read countless times posts made by 'knowalls' that the stop start will Not work when the aircon is on because of it power draw.

Well the aircon is On always when I drive and the Stop Start operates much more often than it doesn't.

Yes, likewise. I select my desired temperature and set climate to "auto" whenever I get a different car, and never touch it again. I normally disable stop start when I start the car, but if I forget, it invariably works.

It CAN be one of the reasons stop start doesn’t work. But it will still activate with AC on, it’s not an always or never thing.  It just depends how big the temperature delta is between inside and the target temp and how much residual heat or cold is in the hvac system. You’ll normally notice the fans dip when stop start activates. The car can also restart when stationary after a time if the hvac system feels it needs more heat or cooling.

If I had the technical knowledge I'd have put that down, as you have Alex, myself 👍
