Lack of power/black smoke

Featured Replies

Any idea on what is wrong with my 2010 2.0 tdci Focus?

Coming back from road trip yesterday heard slight whoosh noise and then had loss of power.

It still drives but can be chuggy and when the foot wants to go down near where the turbo is supposed to come in, there is no boost but just black sometimes greyish smoke out the exhaust.

Struggling atm to check any split pipes as the bonnet release is broken.

Almost certainly popped a boost hose.  Bonnet needs to be sorted first.

Yes 100% was the boost hose, replaced genuine Ford yesterday.

However, made a slight chugging on the evening. This morning chugging kicked in again going up slight incline and stalled. Wouldn't start and after few cranks came up with engine overheating on dash....

AA arrived about 30 mins later and it ticked over after around 5-10 second crank. Followed me back to garage drove fine and is now under inspection again...

Any suggestions or advice about this?

P.s. bonnet lock replaced just fine

Good to hear the bonnet & boost hose is sorted.

I assume the engine wasn't actually overheating and the coolant level hadn't dropped?  It sounds more like a fuelling issue, potentially a small crack in one of the LP fuel pipes, they go brittle in this colder weather.  There's no tank pump on these so when the pipes crack, you don't see any diesel leaking, but air gets pulled into the fuel instead and causes rough running and eventually a cut-out.
