Removing Seats/Disconnecting Battery

Featured Replies

I need to remove the seats in my Mk3 to remove and dry the carpets. Do I need to disconnect the battery when I pull the plug under the seats and do the same when I reconnect? I've seen videos but only one of them showed disconnected the battery.

It's always good practice when disconnecting and reconnecting any of the plugs of the safety restraining system to first disconnect the negative lead from the car battery.

I'm quite sure that many garage mechanics don't bother to do this, but then if one of the airbags or seat belt tensioner accidentally goes off it's not going to them that directly pays for it.

I don't usually bother for seats.  But as your carpets (and presumably floor plugs/wiring) are wet then I think it would be a sensible precaution in this case.

Anything with an airbag in, disconnect battery.

Thanks guys, it does make sense.

I presume nothing will need reprogramming when I reconnect.

Nothing major.  Just one-touch windows and some audio settings.  There is no radio code needed for these.

Excellent, thank you.
