TRANSIT CUSTOM 2014 not starting

Featured Replies

Afternoon all, just been out trying to get my horn to work after a few weeks of not working. Pulled all the fuses to check each and everyone, not knowing which fuse was for horn, didn't find a broken fuse and as light is fading thought I'd better put it all back together to use tomorrow. All panels are now back and steering wheel back on after checking horn wire there. Went to start and now getting Engine Malfunction service now and no turn over. Anyone out there have a clue what I've managed to do? And any ideas on how to fix it?

It's usually easier to just look in the handbook and see what the fuse number is.

I'd expect the van's immobiliser thinks it's getting stolen if you've pulled all the fuses. Are you 110% sure that they are all back in the correct places ?

The usual reset in such cases is to disconnect the vehicles battery (both if it has dual batteries) and leave them off for 20 minutes. This should reset all modules.

Thank you for the help, managed to get the van started after disconnecting the battery and going back through all the fuses to make sure they were correctly in and in right place.

However the horn is still not working so have now narrowed it down to the horn itself, maybe it got wet. Have undone two bolts holding horn in place but can't get the connector off to put a multimeter on it to check power getting to it. Any idea on how to get plug off?

Managed to undo connector without breaking it, ran a multimeter and getting 12v at connector, thinking it now is the horn itself. Unless anyone else knows what it might be?

Horns do break regularly across all cars.  You can test it by putting 12v directly to it from the battery if you want to be absolutely sure.

Could be horn , horn push on steering wheel, clock spring, steering control module, body control module. Broken wire.

What I would do is leave a door or the bonnet open and press the lock button a few times to see if the horn works . If not , get a screwdriver and thump the horn .  https://youtube.com/shorts/NIQllzjR6qc?si=E3qLn2442goFNzKW

Yep, saves messing about if you hit it first before doing anything else. If it decides to work even intermittently , you've saved time doing all the other checks . Then change horn.

Same with operating the lock button. If the the horn works you know the wiring and bcm is ok so your looking at horn push, clock spring.
