ford fiesta mk6 antifreeze loss problem

Featured Replies

Hello, I have a problem with the loss of antifreeze on a Ford Fiesta mk6 2010 gas gasoline, I add antifreeze every few months, but I don't think this should be the case, a year ago I had a hose burst and I replaced it with a new one, but I still have loss of antifreeze it all evaporates or burns it, but I don't think it burns it because it might have mixed it with the oil... If you can give me any advice what it could be thanks in advance

No signs of leaks anywhere? Most common place to leak slowly  is the thermostat housing or even a weeping water pump . You need to take a close look at these. Both of those won't necessarily show a leak dripping under the vehicle.

I'm going to check the thermostat because I've been under the car, I haven't seen any leaks, but that's the thing, a light slowly goes away, but it's only when the car is running, standing still, no problem. And is it ok to put a leak stop additive in the system? Will this thing help?

If its time to change the cambelt, then waterpump usually gets changed at the same time. Car is getting on in years so I'd say DON'T put in additive. I've read on a forum that usual problem with the mk6 is waterpump losing coolant when old.  You're not seeing coolant loss 'cos its most likely dripping onto a hot engine part and drying up.

I still have 30,000 km until I have to service, I doubt that my reservoir has burst or it is from the thermostat

When I find out where the problem is, I will write here in the forum to say what it was

Well, do what you want of course, it's your car, but read this following advice taken from this forum:

https://www.talkford.com/threads/fiesta-mk6-buyers-guide.149811/

Quote: 2 - Engines: 1.4 and 1.6 petrol: Water pump failure is common after 6-7 years and under 50,000 miles. Coolant loss can be dramatic and sudden. Cam belt life is alleged to be 10 years but safer to change after 7, and have the water pump changed as part of the deal - if the water pump alone needs changing, the cam belt should be changed at the same time anyway.

..... just saying.....

if you havnt had the timing belt and water pump changed then get it done 🙂

Antifreeze was leaking from the reservoir, but only when it gets very hot does it leak. I fix it yesterday 😄
