1.0 ecoboost mhev 155 focus cold air intake

Featured Replies

Hi, so I was hoping someone has already done one, if so should I get a induction kit or just run a panel filter.

Wind deflectors. I can't fund an estate version, will it fit from a standard focus. I presume the whole car is the same apart from the rear tyres to the boot is all the was changed. Don't want to waste my money just incase rear doors bigger haha.

Wheel spacers. Was going to put 20/25 mm on the rear and less on the front. Will it affect my tyre wear?

Aftermarket recirculation valve, will that affect performance negatively?

Any recommendations are welcome, what and where to buy, links, alternatives would be appreciated. I will not be getting an exhaust but I may put a remap on...Will ford know this even if I take it back off, I'd like to keep my warranty so I'd be taking off the recirculation valve aswell for servicing. Thanks

Yes they will most definitely know.

How will they know unofix?

I've taken remapped Ford's to ford for servicing and they've not said anything. Not even you have a very good performing car Mr ...........

Ignition key cycles will be too low after the remap is removed.

Thanks for your answer but ignition key cycles will be too low?

Is One key cycle one operation of the ignition key/button?

Yes. Each time the car is started or attempted to be started the ignition cycle is logged. If you map or un-map a car the key cycle data is reset to zero. It is one of the things a garage check for if there is a warranty claim, especially anything to do with engine problems.

The OP could always go down the route of installing a performance chip which can easily be unpluged and removed. Of course if the car was to break down and be removed to the dealer then he would have to quickly remove it before the recovery truck arrived.

There's been a lot of debate on the "detectability" issue on various makes forums over many years.

I doubt if a dealer would spot anything (unless you left a tuning box in place) during a routine service visit, but the problems might come when checking a warranty claim. I got the vibe on VW Group forums that they were pretty diligent on this. A remap, even if removed, would throw up a "flag" - they might not know exactly what you'd done, but would know it was something. (Search "TD1 flag" for more on that)

Also seen the suggestion that the effects of a box could be detected, e.g. if the max turbo boost was set from the factory at, say, 0.5 bar and a reading of 1.0 bar is stored.

Of course, we don't know exactly how diligent Ford would be in these cases (and, as we see, people seem to have enough trouble with legitimate claims on unmolested cars anyway). No-one seems to have the answer for sure, and the manufacturers aren't going to tell us. Unless we have a mole somewhere...........?

As soon as a tech connects the diag equipment, it connects with ford servers and logs any data when a network test is done. Then any procedure, even a DTc test and results  are logged with ford. Any config or updates are logged , any test routine too. The tech using the diag equipment won't know but I'm sure ford can see the data parameters with turbo boost pressures outside the original limits on a turbo engine. Could easily be flagged up by fords servers automatically. . Only be actioned if there's a warranty claim related to the engine .

I've done remap data alterations on a Mazda 3 MPS  so it's fairly obvious what's been altered as in boost pressure limits, fueling, ign timings. Think I had around 10 or more data points to change a 3d map.

I have 25 on the rear and 20 on the front with no tyre wear issues.

Induction kit is unlikely to noticeably increase performance, but should give a better intake noise if that's what you're after.  Uprated panel filters are a waste of money, no improvement in noise or performance.

Mk4 has a wider track than Mk3 and already tramlines badly on 18's (in my experience).  I'd be much more concerned about worsening that than tyre wear from spacers.  Just going to be trial and error to get the look you want without making the straight line cruise worse.

Rear doors are identical on both hatch and Active, as well as 5 door and estate.  So there should be no issue with wind deflectors.  You will need to reset window bounce back after fitting them.

Don't think I've seen anyone fitting an aftermarket recirc valve on an MHEV.  Not sure how the recirc setup compares to the older 1.0EB's so can't comment on that.

As above, it is possible to detect a remap by Ford or your insurance company if they look hard enough.  Will only be used in the event of a claim though, shouldn't make any difference to basic servicing.  (Unless Ford release a PCM update in the future, sometimes remappers lock their maps to prevent them being copied and sold on, and that can prevent dealership access in some cases.)

Hi.

If you have have any issues with insurance at all for any of the modifications your thinking of doing then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

So there is not a whole lot of aftermarket kit for the 155 MHEV. I have one, would be really surprised if you find a recirc valve for it. I've spoken to Airtec about the Mk 4 1.0T and there is no real plans to do anything with it at the moment.

You will notice a little bit of performance improvement with one of their Induction units and it will sound cool. I would suggest you couple it with an MST Airflow Scoop to maximise any benefits. I also went for the full Cat Back exhaust on mine also and wnet with twin dual exhausts (getting rid of that hideous plastic blanking plate) to give it a nicer note.

You can get a remap - I had one and then had them reverse it as I wanted to trial out a TDI tuning box for a bit. I'm not entirely convinced I'm getting the claimed performance levels out of it but would never be able to verify it without a dyno.

It's an incredibly awkward car to even get something pretty generic like aftermarket seats for. Corbeau don't even do a subframe for it. EBC do some nice discs and pads for it though.

I wouldn't look for anything "universal" for it - it's never going to fit, and though you can make the car fit the parts if you really want to, as a hybrid you might be inviting all sorts of problems on yourself.

All that aside, it's still quite a fun car. i took mine round Brands in November and whilst not the fastest machine there by any stretch it was by no means the slowest.
