Fake Duracell - I'm a believer...

Featured Replies

I was always a bit of a cynic when folk talked about 'fake' Duracells when replacing key fob batteries, however...

2 weeks ago I needed to replace a battery in my heating oil tank monitor. As I always do, I tested the battery before putting in, a healthy 3.3v. In the last few days, it started displaying symptoms of a failed battery, so on testing again, it had dropped to 2.85v!

It was bought ages ago from an Ebay vendor with 6 figure +ve feedback, but had a very long shelf life on it, and there's no way it should have failed after 2 weeks. Fake? I believe so...

Measures have been introduced to check for counterfeit batteries...

If the fakers get caught I wonder what the charge would be? 😉

That's the point, there'd be no charge 😂 they'd get away flat free LOL

Probably get away with it, just a black mark in their copybook 😁

If you suspect they are fake and you still have the 'duracell ' packaging then send them to Duracell with your concerns. You will probably get a replacement pack or two for your concern.

Many years ago, I had some Duracell batteries leak, destroying an expensive torch. I had to post them to France as that's where they dealt with such issues then. I received, after 2 months, a cheque to cover price of new torch! In addition, a quick google just now shows they no longer have a returns mechanism unless you bought them direct from them, which negates the 'fake' issue LOL

What? No returns mechanism? That's bang out of order.

So the question is, what happens to any batteries that get a recall from the manufacturer? This has actually happened in the past.

Pretty sure if it was a manufacture recall, they'd supply free returns postage advertised on the recall notice... However, the law was changed recently to disallow postage of batteries that would involve an airplane ride, so may direct you to take them back to an authorised dealer.
