Ford Focus II 2010 “Engine Malfunction” + all sorts of other

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a ford focus Mk2 1.6TDCI 2010. I was on my way home when I got an engine malfunction error along with power steering failure, SRM failure etc.. I scanned it via OBD and got these error codes:

Power steering - U0155 (lost communication with instrument panel cluster module)

Instrument Cluster - U1900 (CAN bus communication fault)

PCM - U0155 (lost communication with IC)

P0234 (turbo overboost) [this code is not new]

P1935 (generic communication fault code)

P1936 (generic communication fault code)

P193B (ThrPdlSig$l)

RCM - U0155 (lost communication with IC)

SRM - U0010 (Medium speed CAN bus communication)

Does this all indicate a bad instrument cluster? I know they’re a common fault on these focuses but not sure what’s wrong with it and I need the car Monday to Friday to get to college.

any suggestions?

Instrument cluster needs refurbished.

Whack on the top of dash above the cluster can sometimes bring it out of limp home mode. Lead free solder in the cluster breaks down with age and requires resoldering if this is the case.

I agree, likely the common cracked solder joint problem.

Ah, Meath, you're in the Republic of Ireland then. Unfortunately I only cover the UK (I'd rather not have to deal with all of the import/export complications). Unless you can sort out a way to send/receive the parcel via Northern Ireland, you'll have to find a local repair service. Note that the cluster itself needs an electronics repair specialist, not a mechanic, and they need to understand how to setup the needles afterwards, so you'll need someone experienced with clusters. It's easy to remove from the vehicle with just the right torx screwdriver. There are a few local services you can find through google.

You find various details in the description of my service here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314393033915

I'm afraid that unless you can find a 'do it while I wait' service that operates at a convenient time/day for you, you're going to have to make do without your car for a short period and find a bus service or something to get to college while it's repaired.

Gotta do what you gotta do, I’ll try find someone to do it for me and keep you updated but it does seem likely that it’s the solder joints, heard many people have problems with this
