Clunking when moving off in 1st and shifting to 2nd

Featured Replies

Hello again people, back with another problem with my mk2.5 focus 1.8 petrol

I’ve been getting a clunking/knocking noise when moving off, changing to 2nd gear or slowly rolling in 2nd gear

seems to be on the passenger side

mechanic said it was wishbones so I replaced them both and it’s still there

I’ve also replaced both engine mounts, the gearbox mount, recently had a clutch, springs and shocks all round, drop links, top mounts basically the entire suspension on the car.

I think it’s the driveshaft although it’s not leaking and I can’t really see any unusual play in it.

only other things I can think of is maybe inside the gearbox or the diff??

I have a video where I jacked it up and held the brake while releasing the clutch and recreated the sound

what’s the best way to upload a video on here?

thanks

Seems more like a bearing issue where the driveshaft meets the gearbox to me

That is an odd noise.  It sounds like DMF rattle but the 1.8 has an SMF.

Think I'd have to go with diff but not convinced enough to spend money on a replacement gearbox.
